How Does a Ductless System Work?
The cool air from a ductless system blows from individual indoor blowers. These blowers are about three feet long and each contains an air filter, a set of coils and a refrigerant line. Each blower is connected to the outdoor unit via a conduit, and an outdoor unit can support up to four individual blowers. The outdoor unit of a ductless system is very similar to that of a ducted system in that it contains a compressor, condenser and condenser fan. The cooling process starts as soon as one blower is turned on.
Why Consider a Ductless Cooling System?
There are a few reasons a ductless AC may be a good fit for your home:
- No need for expensive ductwork – not too long ago, you couldn’t have whole home cooling without ductwork. A ductless system allows you to have cooling for your entire home without needing to install new ductwork or expand existing ductwork.
- Can offer both cooling and heating – when used with a heat pump, a ductless system can both heat and cool your home.
Customized comfort – each blower of a ductless cooling system operates independently, allowing you to have zone control cooling in your home.
