Is Your AC Leaving Hot Spots in Your Home?

man-with-fanThe whole point of using a whole-house cooling system is to cool your whole house with just one cooling system, right? That means cooling the entire house evenly. If your air conditioner is failing to do this, then it is failing in one of the most basic areas of its expectations. Do not allow your AC to come up short, and do not settle for anything less than a great performance from your system throughout your entire home.

There are a few different reasons as to why your air conditioner may fail to cool your entire house evenly. Whatever the cause of the problem, however, our West Chester, OH HVAC professionals are here to help. You shouldn’t have to compromise when it comes to your comfort, even if it is an issue in “just” one area of your home. One is one too many, so contact us with any concerns that you may have!

Malfunctioning Thermostats

The most basic way of setting up a whole-house air conditioner is to install an indoor unit, an outdoor unit, air ducts, and a single thermostat. That is all fine and good, but the fact is that most homes are not very open floorplans, let alone a single open area. That means that using a single thermostat to regulate temperatures throughout the whole house really is not the best way of doing so.

With that in mind, many homeowners use zone controlled HVAC systems, which utilize dampers in the ducts in order to better regulate temperatures throughout the house. Each temperature zone has its own thermostat. If you have a faulty thermostat—or a faulty damper, for that matter—then even this type of system design could leave hot spots in your home. We can assess this equipment and diagnose any problems accurately.

Refrigerant Leaks

In some cases, hot spots are simply the result of an air conditioner that is incapable of removing enough heat from the air in the home. One reason why you may encounter such a problem is due to a refrigerant leak. Remember, your system is not creating new cool air—it is removing heat from the air in your home.

It needs refrigerant to do so, and the right amount of it. If you have a refrigerant leak in your AC system, then your system is going to struggle to remove an adequate amount of heat from the air in your home. Fixing the leak and recharging the system appropriately is imperative. It will fix the problem and prevent potentially serious damages to your air conditioner.

Improper Sizing

We cannot stress this enough. You need qualified professionals to install your air conditioner. This is not only to ensure that your air conditioner is installed properly every step of the way, but also to guarantee that your system is of the right size for your needs.

If it is too small, it is not going to be able to cool your home effectively. Chances are that this will result in reduced comfort throughout the entire house. Those areas furthest from the air handler, however, may be more seriously affected.
